Santa Rosa

Santa Rosa Island is the second largest in the chain and home to the Torrey Pine which is found nowhere else except near San Diego. The island is 10 miles long and 15 miles wide with forested hills and canyons. Good hiking trails and some of the best surfing spots in the islands.

Santa Rosa Island is where they discovered the oldest human remains in the westen hemisphere. Arlington Man carbon dates back 13,000 years. Pymy mammoth fossils have been found here too dating back 10,000 years.

Camping is available with some backcountry sites that are periodically open during the year.
